How to use Twitter

Lately I came across a few people who wanted to start using Twitter, only that they did not really know how to go about it. Although Twitter provides a pretty detailed help section but people usually don’t seem to want to go there and figure things out. Tweeting is real simple guys, trust me!

Firstly, check out the video below (see http://www.howcast.com/videos/149055-How-To-Use-Twitter for transcripts of the video) (its there on twitter help page as well)

That should get you started with using Twitter. And that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about tweeting. Do check out http://help.twitter.com/portal to know more about it.

Then you have services like Twitpic that let you post pictures to Twitter. Note that Twitpic is a third party application and is not officially supported by Twitter. For more applications (supported and unsupported) check outhttp://twitter.pbworks.com/Apps.

Tweeting is more fun if you can do it from your mobile. Go to http://m.twitter.com from you mobile device to tweet on the go. Or you can also tweet by text messaging. The video above explained how you can do that. Also, check out http://twitter.pbworks.com/Mobile-Apps for mobile apps that can be used for tweeting. Do also check out http://twitter.com/downloads for other apps relating to twitter.

Another cool feature that is of interest is its facebook app. Go to http://apps.facebook.com/twitter. This links your facebook profile to your twitter profile. So anything you update on Twitter , gets posted as your Facebook status (the reverse does not happen).

There is a world of different types of applications that are linked to twitter. Its fun to tweet. I love it, I hope you will love it too. Please leave a comment below if you liked this post. Constructive criticism is always welcome! :)

Street names after a twitter account

Yes, you read it write. There is a street in a Palestine refuge camp named after a twitter account of one Arjan El Fassed (tweeter account – @arjanelfassed). Its called – “@ arjanelfassed tweetstreet”. Read more here – http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/09/worlds-first-street-named-after-a-twitter-account/

A very novel way to donate for a refuge camp and getting something intersting out of it.

Orkut getting a new look!

Yeah, you read that right. Orkut is getting a makeover. See - Get the new orkut. But who cares!

Google finally seems to have woken up to the fact that people have stopped using Orkut and migrated long back to Facebook. But they just took their invite thing to a whole new level this time. Yes! You need an invite to see the new orkut interface. Check out the link above to see what I mean.

Birthplace of Harry Potter

I have to admit am not big on reading books and have always enjoyed the Harry Potter movies more than the Harry Potter books. Am not implying that the movies were better. Just that am too lazy to read a big book.

Today I had the chance to take a look at the cafe where J.K. Rowling sat and wrote her first Harry Potter book. Its a small cafe in Edinburgh called The Elephant House and has a backroom overlooking the Edinburgh Castle.

You can read about the cafe at http://www.elephanthouse.biz/ and click here

Here are some pictures that I took –

Why is Apple so negative?

Check out “Apple Targets Windows 7: 3 New Mac Ads Scream For Attention!” to see the new negative Ads that Apple has come out with targeting the new Window 7 operating system. As usual, these Ads don’t say anything about the shortcomings of a Mac. See “Mac OS X Flaws – Simple Things That Mac Cannot Do: Mac Is Not User Friendly!” to find out the flaws that Mac has. Here’s one of the Ads –

I thought it was time I started blogging again. And having bought a new laptop, I got Window Live Writer pre-installed. So decided to give it a try.

Am hoping this will be real convenient and I will try my best to blog more often. Just have to decide what I should really blog about. :)
